MARINA BORKER

4" x 4"

Artist statement:

I think of my candle votives as small structures or dwellings. They are inspired by igloos and Scandinavian snow lanterns that glow when illuminated from the inside.

Artist bio:

While stained glass artists often focus on the color and composition of glass itself, Marina Borker turns her attention to the leading that holds the glass together and uses it as a medium for drawing. She composes original patterns of geometric forms and optical illusions that perceptually engage the viewer. All patterns are first composed by hand, so that the final pieces are often quirky and irregular in appearance, like the drawn images they begin from.

Marina Borker lives and works in Philadelphia, PA. She is a graduate of The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Certificate Program with a B.F.A. from University of Pennsylvania and an M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She has participated in many exhibitions and craft shows in and outside of Philadelphia-some venues include: PMA Craft Show, Spruance Art Center at Arcadia University, Nexus Gallery, Abington Art Center, Main Line Art Center, Fordham University Art Gallery, and Median Art Center, Beijing, China.
