American Contemporary Art by Local Artist Mathieu Jean

Mathieu began his journey 20 years ago displaying small works on the streets of SOHO. City-wide crack-downs ultimately pressed him to abscond to his studio and devote himself to a period of development; increasing the scale and scope of the works. After five years of studio work and shows in small venues , his work found residence at Gallery Elevee in midtown Manhattan. Today, his prolific output is a compulsion, having crossed mediums; paint, ink, and wood. Having earned a reputation as an intuitive mixed media painter, influenced both by street artists and a pantheon of icons: DeKooning, Kiefer, Basquiat, Twombly.

This item is one of a kind 18 X 24 inch emulsion on wood. The piece is part of his Nebula series and has been used in large scale glass installations. Mathieu and his art have been featured in many local and national publications. His work was recently featured in a digital exhibit in Times Square, NYC.
