Unprecedented Times
Since 1997, AYA has demonstrated what committed individuals can accomplish - dedicated faculty and staff who work tirelessly on behalf of their students, community supporters whose generosity supplies over 80% of our annual operating budget and families who sacrifice so their children can attend. Despite a median household income of less than $18,000, every family pays an average of 8% of household income for tuition. In an environment where we must raise an average of $15,000 per student annually to cover the cost of education, we have "normal" financial challenges. This year we are confronted with unprecedented social and financial challenges. Nationally, a generation of kids is in danger of losing nearly an entire academic year, but we at AYA are determined not to let that happen to our students.
Benefit Auction Celebrates 17 Years
The AYA Benefit Auction is our school's most critical fundraiser and due to the pandemic, it will be held virtually on December 6th. As hard as the pandemic is for everyone, it's hitting our AYA families particularly hard. The $18,000 median income is down from a pre-COVID level of $23,000 - that's a 22% decrease for families who were already facing significant challenges.
We believe we owe it to our kids to help secure their future. To accomplish that, we need your support more than ever. Whether it's your time, your talents, your item contributions, your sponsorship, or your direct financial support, your help makes a difference, one child at a time. Every dollar raised will directly fund scholarships for students to continue their education at AYA and this year, more than ever before, the scholarship support will be critical.
AYA president Peter Rooney points out, "Almost every one of our students would not have access to a quality education without this support. So many individuals, businesses, and organizations donate items and experiences to ensure our students can continue to receive the best educational experiences possible. We will be forever grateful to our contributors for their incredible generosity."
