In October 2003 a small team of American Special Operators drove down National Street near Bakara Market in Mogadishu, Somalia. The team passed by the area where one of the two Black Hawks shot down during Operation Gothic Serpent came to rest 10-years prior. The local Somalis called this particular section of road Black Hawk Corner. Almost indistinguishable, some wreckage and remnants of the Black Hawk Michael Durant's piloted that day in 1993 remained. The team removed a small 12" section of pipe, at the time from what appeared to be the helicopter frame. The piece then remained in storage for 16 more years. A small piece retrieved on that operation in 2003 is on this board. Subsequently analyzed by a metallurgist to establish authenticity. A quiet reminder that special operators never let our nation's enemies rest, even when that requires travel to the most austere locations on the planet.
This auction item is signed by Michael Durant, the pilot on Black Hawk Super 64, that was shot down over Mogadishu in 1993.
The Auction also includes a bottom of Hooten / Young Whiskey. Norm Hooten, one of the owners of the Whiskey Company, was a Delta Operator on the mission. The Whiskey is aged 12 years.
