Closer to Fine. Botswana Inspired Chair handmade by Wade Austin. Wade Austin was inspired by his visit to Holy Cross Hospice in Botswana. This one of a kind, handmade chair is based on a design from the home of one of the friends of Holy Cross Hospice in Gaborone, Botswana. The chair was made from branches of a black locust tree that was toppled by the 2020 tornado and has a tung oil finish. Black locust makes great outdoor furniture. The Botswana design, crafted with Nashville wood, shows what the Indigo Girls sang, "There's more than one answer to these questions/Pointing me in a crooked line" because Wade has connected these two places. Wade trained and worked as a timber framer, carpenter, and natural builder with the country's greatest craftsmen and established W. H. Austin Design Build. His workshop is located in the heart of East Nashville. Wade is committed to improving his community and preserving earth's precious resources. He feels a responsibility to pay living wages, to source sustainable building materials, and to creatively cut down on construction waste. Courtesy of Wade Austin.
