Ven! Come make alebrijes with Teacher Cyntia and Profesora Kuri!

Alebrijes are colorful and intricately-decorated folk art sculptures from Mexico inspired by fantastical creatures that appeared in the fever-induced dream of paper maché artisan Pedro Linares. These fantastical creations--think an iguana with wings-- are colorful, bright works of art that are as fun to make as they are to have in your home.

Professor Alicia Kuri has brought this work into her CLWS Spanish classes in Grades Seven and Eight. Teacher Cyntia Wolberg, an incredible artist, creates bold and beautiful works of art, including in the alebrije form.

Cyntia talks about how she learned this art form.

"I learned how to make Alebrijes with a Susana Bujo. She studied under Pedro Linares who was the Mexican artisan that created the paper mache Alebrijes and named them," Cyntia said. "When he was 30 years old he got sick and lost consciousness. In a deep sleep, strange creatures were revealed to him that would change his fate.

I would love to take you through this wonderful experience that has been a part of my life for more than 15 years."

Now, you and your child can join these two skillful teachers and create your own fantastical piece of art.

Designed as an adult and child (fourth grade or older) endeavor, this class will meet four times outside on CLWS school grounds over the summer. Each class will be 2-3 hours. Supplies and instruction are included--you need to bring your ability to sense which alebrije is yours to make. You and your child will create one alebrijes together.

Class is limited to six pairs for a total of 12 students. Each student will make their own creation to bring home. Cost is $100 per pair.

There is no bidding here--just pay the $100 to reserve your spot. Once the six spots are taken, the item will no longer be available.

Don't miss out on your opportunity to experience the expertise of these experienced teachers sharing their art and its story.
