Title of Painting: "Albin's Favorite.....Painting" [ellipsis is deliberate]

This painting was created for the EPAC 2015 production of the musical "La Cage aux Folles." The painting was in Albin and George's apartment set in Act I, flanked by two nude male torso sculptures. It symbolically conveyed the gay couple's outrageous décor. Albin (played by EPAC Artistic Director, Ed Fernandez) is a drag performer in the nightclub that he and "partner" George (played by Ken Seigh).

For those not familiar with the plot: In Act II Albin and George become overly "conservative" to appease George's son who is engaged to the daughter of an ultra-conservative politician. The apartment décor is changed. The pink zebra stripe and pink leopard print fabrics are removed, the bare torsos vanish, and the painting was replaced by a same size painting of the Crucifixion.

Both paintings from LA CAGE ("Albin's Favorite???Painting," and that of the Crucifixion) were exhibited, most recently in the gallery of Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Community College (HACC) where the latter painting was sold at a benefit auction. Adding the "audiences" of this painting, during the run of the musical and the exhibitions, hundreds of people have seen it and would recognize it.

The reason for the title including ellipsis is for the wit. "Albin's Favorite" before the ellipsis would mean the subject of the painting as the "audience "pauses" to assume than. Then the word "Painting" pulls the rug from that assumption.

Included with the painting: A framed photograph of both paintings in performance at EPAC, and two masks made from the pink zebra print fabric of Albin's Act I Apartment décor.

Victor Capecce is an Associate Professor in the Millersville University Communication & Theatre Department. He has designed over 20 productions at the Ephrata Performing Arts Center (besides LA CAGE) including SOUTH PACIFIC, WONDERFUL TOWN, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THE LADY IN QUESTION, FOLLIES (the last production before the 2004 renovation) and 1776 (the first production after the renovation) The first show he designed for EPAC was THE MOUSETRAP in 1987.

Victor has recently retired from United Scenic Artists, local union #829 in NYC where he designed and painted scored of productions. He designed scenery and/or costumes for NYC

Opera, Alvin Ailey, the Goodspeed Opera House, Parco-Seibu in Tokyo, several industrial shows in Nashville, Dallas, and Los Angeles. As a scenic artist, he spent a great deal of time in Studio 8H at NBC for SNL; and among the many films he worked on were THE WIZ and the original GHOSTBUSTERS. He was the designer and Technical Director at Theatre Harrisburg at the Whittaker Center before teaching full time at MU. His murals and faux finishes with his business, RENN-ART ASSOCIATES have been visible across Lancaster County.

He is still teaching Theatre, Communication and Entrepreneurship courses at Millersville where he had also designed over 30 productions and taught hundreds of fabulous students over the last 15 years.
