Growing up on a coffee and cacao plantation in the high mountains of Nicaragua, Aricia Alvarado learned this fundamental principle from her grandmother, whose love of cooking prevailed in the kitchen. Almost every ingredient in her recipes was homegrown or raise on their land. Organically grown vegetables always provided abundant harvest. Fresh fish was caught from nearby freshwater lakes and streams. Sourcing dairy product was as simple as milking a cow or churning milk into butter and cheese. Bread and pies were freshly baked in their kitchen's firewood oven on almost a daily basis.

Aricia's first cooking lessons happened then and there, as her palate developed the wide range of tastes and textures to be found in food naturally grown, creatively prepared for loved ones. That's when the gathering of everyone at the family table was an event that marked the high point of each day.

Good food, community, and fun are how Aricia describes that time in her life. So, it was natural when, after coming to Los Angeles to complete her education, Aricia chose to formally pursue her career in the culinary arts. She studied a broad range of cuisines including Asian, Italian, and Spanish. Arica refined her skills working with renowned chefs, studying techniques and recipes, built upon culinary fusion principles through innovations and culture to her craft.

Kitchen, mixology, wine pairing, and restaurant management into a career span of over twenty years.

The recipient of eight awards from Southern California restaurant Writer's Association, Aricia is the founder of Alchemy Kitchen leading a world-class team dedicated to the design and production of unique and distinctive catered events.
