J.R. Salzman is a Veteran Owned Company with decades of experience. To say J.R. was born with sawdust in his blood is an understatement. He grew up in the sleepy logging town of Hayward, Wisconsin, home of the Lumberjack World Championships. Like many of the resident children, he started competing in log rolling at the age of five. He competed throughout my entire childhood and turned pro as a teenager.

It was during his early teenage years that he was bit by the woodworking bug. He wasn't happy with the quality of cheap, mass produced furniture that fell apart under normal use. One project led to another, and before he knew it, he was hooked. He bought my first sawmill 15 years ago to support my own woodworking addiction. Despite the loss of his right arm to a roadside bomb, he continued sawing and woodworking, and persevered to relearn his skill set with the use of only one arm. His perseverance spawned the J.R. Salzman Wood Company, your source for beautiful woodwork and custom live edge furniture.

Uncle Nearest 1856 is a blend of premium aged whiskies between 8 and 14 years old. It has a caramel color with a beautiful deep golden hue. On the nose, baled hay and pumpkin seeds with subtle notes of ripe stone fruit and caramel corn. Bold and spicy upfront then mellows with sweet caramel and maple, like biting into an oatmeal raisin cookie. The finish is long and rich. It lingers pleasantly sweet on the palate with notes of vanilla after the spice dissipates.
