Colonial housewives used these durable floor cloths like we use scatter rugs. This beautiful version, painted by Martha Mobley of Basye, depicts all sort of river life, down to the little red and white bobber hanging on a branch. The floor cloth is heavy-duty canvas treated with multiple layers of gesso and polyurethane. A final step after painting is to apply butchers or bowling alley wax and then buff. Don't hesitate to use this on your floor. With proper care of light soap and water, quickly dried, the cloth will last for years. Dimensions 35 x 35 inches. Value $300.
