Spend the day fishing one of southwest Montana's blue-ribbon trout rivers with AFS member Jim Bowker.

The area is known for outstanding year-round trout fishing. It boasts some famous river stretches such as the Madison, Yellowstone, and Missouri. Depending on the river and time of year you would like to fish, we'll float in a driftboat or raft. We can also hit one of the local lakes if the chironomid or calibaetis bite is on.

The trip is for up to two fisherpersons. If only one angler, we'll be rowed by outgoing AFS Past-president Jesse Trushenski, who tackled the Yankee Jim Canyon stretch of the Yellowstone this year and is eager to float it again.

We'll provide rods/reels, flies, lunch, snacks, drinks, and arrange for the shuttle. You will need to purchase a fishing license.

I'll fish the stretch of river/lake we decide on floating a few days before your trip and will reach out to the professionals to get the latest on what flies are working. Fish aren't always on the bite, but we'll work hard to get you on fish and the right fly at the end of your line.

Details:

  • Make your way to Bozeman, Montana.
  • Purchase a fishing license at a Montana fly shop or on-line ($25 for two consecutive days + $25 for Conservation license and AIS Prevention Pass).
  • Can accommodate up to 2 guests. No experience is necessary but is recommended.
  • Exact date to be decided between parties. I can provide information on some of the best times to hit the local waters. Depending on snowpack, runoff can keep rivers unfishable for extended periods of time. We'll be flexible and work with you to ensure your trip is memorable.
  • Expires Sept 30, 2021.
