The Art Center Highland Park and Curt's Café recently unveiled their new mural by local artist Ivan Hernandez Salinas with the students and staff of Curt's Café. This work entitled 'Rise Up' is the result of a collaboration between the two groups and, hopefully, the first mural in a series of public art projects created by The Art Center Highland Park.

Entitled "Rise Up," the art work's design incorporates a theme of the mustard seed growing in a field. Eleven fists are painted in multiple skin color and represent the mustard seeds flowering and rising up among bright colors of yellow, green and blue.

One fist on the painting holds a chain above the letters "BLM," a nod to the Black Lives Matter movement. Additionally, there are social justice-related words included on the painting, which was created during the COVID-19 pandemic and amid the recent civil unrest that has followed recent incidents of police killing unarmed African Americans.
