Set of 3 - Beautiful FOLK CRAFT "mingei" one-of-a-kind dyed cushion covers from Tortoise General Store will brighten up any room with the deep colors achieved through a handmade dye.
Description:
Katazome (???) is a Japanese method of dyeing fabrics using a resistance paste applied through a stencil. Considered to be one of Japan's traditional folk crafts and part of the mingei movement, these cushion covers are made through traditional katazome methods and showcases traditional graphic patterns.
Variation:
One-of-a-kind and entirely handmade. There may be natural variation in the pattern due to its dyeing method and hand stitching.
History:
Katazome resistance dyeing is done by applying a rice flour mixture onto the desired fabric using a brush or a tool such as a palette knife. Pigment is then added by hand-painting, immersion or both. Where the paste mixture covers and permeates the cloth, the dye that's applied later will not penetrate the paste, and instead deeply dyes the uncovered fabric to create beautiful graphic patterns.
Measurement:
18'' x 18" each
Materials:
Cotton canvas and dye
Care Instructions:
Spot clean gently by hand
