This painting was inspired by the period of fear and anxiety that many were going through after two weeks of quarantine turned into two months and COVID-19 raged on throughout the world. No one was sure what lay ahead and "new normal" wasn't yet on the tip of everyone's tongues. People weren't sure how safe they needed to be, and the simple task of buying groceries felt like going into a warzone. Cut off from others, the impact of isolation started to take its toll on the mental health of many. The figure in this painting reflects an inner turmoil through a disfigured exterior. Though grocery stores are characteristically well lit and bright, the store depicted represents the darkness of the time.
