Former AIM Teacher Jamie Stratton has brought back some wonderful from his trip to the Kikuyu tribe in Kenya.

Everything inside, and including the basket, is handmade (apart from the wine glasses which were bought and then etched by hand) by local members of the Kikuyu tribe here in Kenya. In the basket are the following items.

  • Wooden salad tongs
  • Wooden bookends with giraffes carved into them
  • Two painted stone bowls
  • Two painted candle stick holders
  • Two hand etched wine glasses
  • A stone jewelry box in the shape of Africa. To open the box you have to pull out the country of Kenya and then it will slide open (Kenya is the key as they say.)
  • Stone bottle opener
  • A decorative plate with a stand, depicting Massai people.
  • A wooden bowl with two engraved elephants
  • A book mark in the shape of Africa with a Giraffe painted on it
  • A pencil with a small drum and shells at the top (when spun the shells hit the drum to make a sound)
  • Finally the basket itself is made from woven recycled plastic.

Note: 50% of the contribution will directly support the Grave Community Education Centre in Kenya.
