Barbara was born in 1951 in Latrobe, PA. As a child she loved reading books filled with wonderful illustrations. While in grade school she began doing fashion drawing and painting outdoors. She also began taking oil painting classes. Barbara graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where she studied fashion illustration.
She worked as a graphic artist for 25 years. In 2001 Barbara began teaching drawing and painting classes at the York Art Association, Mechanicsburg Art Center and Lancaster Museum of Art. She started working in pastel and this continues to be her chosen medium. Her pastel paintings are done in a realistic manner. Her choice of subjects are landscapes and the human form harkening back to her earlier days. Through her paintings she hopes to touch the viewer by showing the beauty and timelessness of nature, qualities that are often missed in day to day life.
Barbara has been influenced by her husband Robert, a noted artist and teacher. She is also influenced by Degas, Vermeer and Wyeth. Barbara has been commissioned by Reader's Digest, Susquehanna-Pfaltzgraff, and many others. She has won numerous awards and honors during her career. Barbara is most proud of a commemorative painting which hangs in Hope Lodge at Hershey Medical Center.
