Inspiration: The winter can be long for someone with a disability and isolation, however, while looking out the kitchen window there was something there; a few birch trees in the snow and a blue sky that needed to be painted to brighten the day (and wiping up blue paint speckles on the kitchen floor from dropping the brush!)

Artist Bio: George Donahue has been involved with PYD since 1987 and has mentored three young adults. He was also a Youth Coordinator for one of the programs for many years. Always with a video camera in hand, George has recorded several PYD events.

George has had a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) since his early 20s, affecting the nervous system and peripheral nerves. The disease has progressed slowly over the years, mostly affecting his lower legs and hands, so that now he uses a manual wheelchair.

Since the onset of CMT George has continued a career in computer technology, started a small
business, pursued interests in art and
photography, married, contributed his
knowledge and experience to others with
disabilities, and raised public awareness about disability wherever he goes. George enjoys painting with acrylics. His first mural was about 30 years ago and with the loss of sensation in his fingertips due to CMT and many brushes filled with paint dotting the floor, he found acrylic paint was easier to clean up than oil paint.
