Title: Drake

Artist: Brandy Rustemeyer

Medium: Gouache

Dimensions: 11"x14"

Animal depicted is Drake.

Drake showed up on the wooden back deck of a St. Louis city home. The owner of the house called saying that the dog had been shot and there was a lot of blood on the deck, coming from the dogs back foot. This poor pup was terrified and huddled in the corner. He moved around a bit as Donna was trying to leash him and his foot would bleed more as he moved. The wooden slats of the deck were covered in blood. It took a while for Donna to gain enough trust to even leash him up and once leashed he was very hesitant to even walk. Our team took their time getting to the jeep and had to sit with him for a bit before even trying to get him in. Once he arrived at the shelter, this beautiful, white Shepherd took a little while to warm up. Our Veterinarians examined him and concluded it was not a bullet wound, but instead was likely a bite wound. We were thrilled when our Veterinarian informed us that his wound should heal and he would have full use of his leg. After his foot healed and he adjusted to being at the shelter, he was the sweetest boy. It was no surprise that he was adopted within a matter of weeks! Now he's living the life as a loved member of the family.
