Title: Carina

Artist: Maura Bulger

Medium: Acrylic on Wood

Dimensions: 12"x9.5"

Animal depicted is Carina.

On a dreary, rainy summer afternoon, a good samaritan spotted Carina scurrying about in a freight lot in north St. Louis. Scared and confused, Carina was unsure about humans and was unwilling to approach Donna or anyone else. Donna quickly set up a trap, filled it with sausages and kibble, hoping to lure Carina.

Donna retreated to the Jeep a few hundred feet away, still able to view the trap. Carina smelled the food and began to approach the trap, however, an unknowing bystander a block away decided to light a few bottle rockets to pass the time as Independence Day was right around the corner. Carina darted back under a truck to hide, but soon after her hunger overtook her fear. She courageously approached the trap again, eager to nourish her emaciated, aching body. As the trap closed behind her, Carina didn't panic. She knew that Donna was there to give her the freedom ride she had always dreamed about.
