Title: The Story In Her Eyes

Artist: Donna Lochmann

Medium: Digital Photograph with repurposed window

Dimensions: 24" x 25"

I've always said how I feel like a dog's eyes tell a story and show emotion. Sadly, we see so many with eyes that are full of sadness, pain, and loneliness. Their eyes tell us that they have given up. The day I saw this dog in the chair, it was cold. I'm sure she was trying to get warm. I could see the emptiness in her eyes, and it broke my heart.

Her "owners" have other dogs as well. All chained in different parts of the yard. I've never seen anyone out with them, and I rarely even see them get up. No happiness, no tail wags. Life at the end of a chain.

For a while the dog in the chair got moved to a house up the street. I would stop and feed her, and she would actually wag her tail and seem excited to see me. But I no longer see her. I wonder where she is now.
