Title: Iceberg-Journey to Love

Artist: Laurie Rowlett

Medium: Acrylic Mixed Media Collage

Dimensions: 22x26

Animal Depicted is Iceberg.

This past winter was mild for the most part, but in February temperatures plummeted to single digits for over a week. We were out in the freezing cold every minute of every day helping lost and stray animals in our city. The streets were covered in ice.

We headed up Broadway in response to a call we received about a large German Shepherd that had been wandering all alone for over a week. The intersection was terrifying for him - large, loud trucks came from every direction and he ducked in and out of truck parking lots. He barked and barked from down the street and wouldn't let us come close. We couldn't feel our fingers or toes and worried about leaving him here overnight. We set up a trap but in the morning it was empty. We spent another day tracking him down and trying to corner him, but he was just too fast for us.

Finally, he got desperate enough that he went into the trap! This huge 100+ pound boy was so thankful to be rescued and grateful we didn't give up on him! We will never give up.
