Photographer's Artistic Statement
Often I am asked how I started doing photography. About 40 years ago my wife, Jean, gave me a camera and a course in darkroom photography, encouraging me to consider taking it up as a hobby.
Soon I built my own darkroom in our basement. I spent many hours there until digital came along. I got a new camera, computer and high-end printer and spent a long time seriously studying Photoshop
I taught classes at the Princeton Adult School for many years. Also I have taught at Chautauqua Institution, and at Evergreen Forum of the Princeton Senior Resource Center, and Grounds for Sculpture. Also I was one of the founding members of the Princeton Photography Club.
When I retired from my career in the investment field, I was invited to join Photo Gallery 14 in Hopewell where I am still an active member.
I have had several guest exhibitions in local places such as the Present Day Club, Nassau Presbyterian Church, and Princeton Public Library. Also several prominent photography collectors around the country have acquired my artwork to add to there collections.
It pleases me to show these images of Princeton at night. Nighttime in Princeton can become magical when you stop, take time to look, and really see. Traffic and people in daytime can be visual overload. The darkness calms it down and gives it a glow.
I give special thanks to my wife, Jean, as well as our friend David Wald who accompanied me on my numerous nocturnal photo shoots. Also David has been good to lend us his able assistance in hanging the show.
