About Sheryl Waugh:

Sentimental Artist Painting the countryside

I grew up with the sights, smells and sounds of a working farm while my Dad plowed with a mule and my Mom milked the cows. I am inspired smelling the fresh earth as it is plowed and breathing fresh air of the countryside as I view the ever changing colors of the land, skies and water.

My husband and I are blessed to live in a beautiful rural community in Tennessee which is a haven for a landscape artist. I love painting old barns, houses and country churches in their landscapes because they have such a story to tell of the people living and working there. I am sure this is why some might call me a sentimental artist. My wish is to capture those stories on my canvas, while allowing your imagination to create your own personal story as you live with my art.

Many artists, friends, family members and especially my husband, have inspired and encouraged me to push forward with my dream of oil painting. I am President of The Chestnut Group, which is a wonderful organization of approximately 250 artists who are plein air artists painting outdoors. I have studied under many of the top artists from all over the the United States and Italy striving to do my very best. I will sit in the wonderment of the scene to be painted and study it in great depth examining the colors, reflections and shadows. I cannot paint just anything. I examine the scene until one speaks to me, then and only then, I will know if it will be a nice painting and tell a good story. If my art helps you reflect back to your story, you can rest assured my heart is happy.
