The 152-page hardcover tells the stories of more than 130 members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, one of the first state halls in the country. Bronze plaques of the Hall members hang in the Walk of Fame in downtown Milwaukee. Established in 1951, the Hall includes household name legends such as Hank Aaron, Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr, Robin Yount, and others. Some of the most fascinating stories are about members who might not have as high of name recognition but were legends in their own rights. They include the first batter in World Series history, the man who finished second to Jesse Owens in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Olympic champions in several sports, and others. Many of these stories would have been diminished or lost if it was not for the research that led to this book.
