Concealed Carry XV Baby
Conceptual Relief Sculpture: Baby blanket, toy plastic guns, hand embroidery. Includes wall mount. 2018. 27" x 39" x 2". Description: In relief sculptures and sculptural site-installations, hand-sewing secures plastic weapons within baby blankets, a conceptual adaptation of 'trapunto' quilting- toy guns in place of cotton batting. Each work begins with collecting/selecting unique recycled baby blankets. The arrangements of plastic weapon/s within is inspired by observing children's play. "ConcealedCarryLand" proposes to be as quintessentially American as Disneyland, and is intended to prompt dialogue and debate on gun culture: what matters more, our guns or our kids? Why does the U.S. have 120.5 guns per 100 persons, more than any other nation? What is the impact of lockdowns on children's psychological well-being? Should civilians have access to semi-automatic guns?
