Two bottles of wine, one from the Napa Valley and one from Alexander Valley, selected from the wine library at The Accidental Wine Company. The first is the 2005 Martin Ray Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon. The second is the 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Both bottles have been properly cellared since acquisition.? Please note that with vintages over 10 years old, the drinkability of the wine cannot be guaranteed. But these bottles are expected to be excellent.
Martin Ray is named after an early pioneer of California winemaking and a champion of single varietal, region-specific wines. Since 1990, the winery has been owned and operated by Courtney Benham.
Scores are typically high for the Martin Ray Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage received 93 points from Wine Enthusiast, stating "Diamond Mountain, rising above St. Helena in the Mayacamas range, always produces very tannic wines, but in the best of cases, such as this Cab, they're also lush and approachable at a young age. Made from 100% varietal grapes, it's deep and dense in black currants and chocolate, with forest notes of wild herbs and lavender. New oak provides even richer levels of smoke, caramel and vanilla."
The 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux style blend from the Alexander Valley in Sonoma. Estate grown, produced and bottled it is intense with dark stone fruit, blackberry, and white pepper with hints of chocolate dust. The red plum and heritage rose aromas compliment finely textured tannins while the earthy finish rounds out the toast and complexity. The blend is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec 9% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot
