About the Item
We often hear about the music of the anvil. I take comfort that it is we, as smiths, who give it voice, write the lyrics and the rhythms.

About the Artist

Jack da Silva is a third generation gravestone maker from a family business of over 100 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. His first experience moving metal was to straighten out the heavy nails that were used to build large wood forms used in pouring concrete while building memorials and mausoleums. This, in part, drew him into becoming a metalsmith. Not until his first year at San Jose State University was he able to take a class in Jewelry Metal Arts. Over time, he worked his way to becoming a Jewelry Metal Arts professional and educator.

Jack is currently an instructor and oversees the Jewelry Metal Arts program at City College of San Francisco. He lives and creates alongside his wife Marilyn in Pinole, CA. He has traveled as an arts advocate, practicing metalsmith, and Jewelry Metal Artist for research, exhibitions, presenting lectures, and workshops across the USA, South Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, England, Ireland, Portugal, Greece and Japan. His work is represented in museums and collections across America, several international museums, and others across the globe.
