About the Artist
"As a blacksmith, I work with metals at temperatures that render them soft, malleable and plastic. I use simple hand tools - hammer and anvil - that haven't changed substantially for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Thus, the challenge I face daily in my studio is to create something new out of the old. This can be literal - re-using salvaged materials, for instance, or it can be figurative - a recombination of old techniques, creating new and original forms. The constant thread in my work is always the clear expression of the forging process used to transform raw, untouched material into a fully realized, finished piece."
