Keep Hope Photograph by Rusty Leffel, Matted and Mounted, 16x20, Signed by the Photographer
Rusty Leffel is a human rights advocate whose photographs capture the intensity and emotion of like-minded pursuers of social justice. This photograph, TO DO: Hope, is part of a group of timely photos titled "I Can't Breathe" that Leffel shot during Kansas City's protests following the horrific murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. The Kansas City-based and award-winning photographer describes his motivation and inspiration for these photographs this way:
As witnesses, we can't just ignore and walk away from what we saw happen to our fellow human. But we CAN walk FORWARD to fix our broken selves, broken system, and systemic racism that led to this death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.
These photographs are part of that walk.
