1This 24" x 20" Robert Blehert painting of Nat King Cole is titled, "Holiday Spirit".
- Nat King Cole grew up in Chicago, attending Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Bronzeville, the school Sam Cooke attended a few years later. He also participated in Walter Dyett's music program at DuSable High School. Cole would sneak out of the house to visit clubs, sitting outside to hear Louis Armstrong, Earl Hines, and Jimmie Noone. As an American singer and jazz pianist, Cole recorded over 100 songs that became hits on the pop charts.
- Artist Robert Blehert has been an internationally collected impressionist painter for over 40 years. "Holiday Spirit" was done using all palette knife with heavy bodied acrylic on canvas. Blehert's love of music is deep and varied- speaking to this painting, Blehert notes, "I am a great lover of good old fashioned holiday spirit and I hope this painting can help foster some of that."
- Blehert's work has also been used by many professional sports teams as game day posters, which have become collector's items for hundreds of thousands of fans nation-wide. Blehert has been a huge sports fan his entire life, and among his long list of collectors are many professional athletes. In the artist's words, "Painting athletes combines my love of the portrait with the passion, energy and action of sports. I literally become the subject I am endeavoring to capture on canvas!"
