Keshi Ghat Meditation (Vrindavan, India, 2016)

Over the sacred Yamuna River, a man meditates at Keshi Ghat, a holy Hindu site. The Hindu deity Krishna is believed to have bathed here after killing the demon Keshi, who symbolizes vanity and ego. Yogis curtail these tendencies through chanting and humble service. This photo is part of a series called "Serpent in the Wilderness" by award-winning photographer Andy Richter. Richter, a yoga practitioner and visual storyteller, spent five years traveling to places that are relevant to yoga's past and present and working with many of the world's great saints and yogis.
