Hiroshi Yoshida

Three Little Islands

Japanese color woodblock print

(from Inland Sea, second series)

10 ¾"h x 15 ¾"w

Hiroshi Yoshida was an early- to mid 20th-century Japanese painter and woodblock printer. In his teens, his art teacher recognized his early aptitude for art and adopted and mentored him. From that early training, Yoshida went on to have a lifelong career in the arts, eventually becoming regarded as one of the greats of the shin-hanga (collaborative) printing style. In his lifetime, he travelled extensively, which is reflected in his work. His designs tend to highlight non-Japanese subjects in a traditional woodblock style, including such well-known locations as the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps and the Grand Canyon, among others.
