African Motif

Mixed Media

34"h x 26 1/2"w

For quite a few years, Chrystal Denise Gillon has been working in assemblage and collage, using a variety of mediums mixed with found and recycled objects. Her work explores a number of themes from the perspective of an African American, a lover of Jesus and as expressions of the nostalgia she has for the '50s and '60s, her childhood years. African Motif is a mixed media piece using hand-drawn and hand-colored silkscreen stencil, colored with dry pastel and screen printing inks, along with threads, beads and cut black paper.

Gillon resides in Milwaukee and her artwork can be found in both corporate and private Midwest collections. Her Third Ward studio space is in the Materials Studios + Gallery in the Marshall Building. Chrystal holds a BA degree in art education from Alverno College and a BA of Fine Art from MIAD.
