Artist Bio:

Biography:
Janice Pluma, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Sacramento. Her interest
in art began in childhood, and has never diminished. She spent much of her adult life moving to different locales, and studied fine art at colleges in California, Colorado and North Dakota.
Eventually, she found herself in Santa Maria, CA wanting to finally obtain a diploma. At the time,
there was no university in the area offering a fine art degree, so she entered Cal Poly's (SLO)
graphic design program. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Art and Design, she
worked for various San Luis Obispo county newspapers and magazines...and continued to paint. Settling in Paso Robles, Janice formed a freelance business, Warpaint Graphics, specializing in print media: magazines, logos, business collateral and wine labels. While successful as a graphic designer, she always desired to return to an active fine art career. Several years ago she had the opportunity to establish a collaborative studio, Atelier 708, with two other Paso Robles artists and left the graphics business to paint full time. Today she shows her work in galleries and various solo and group exhibitions. Janice is a past president of Paso Robles Art Association and Secretary/Signature Member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters.
Artist Statement:
"I create acrylic and mixed media art based on my interest in emotion, spirituality, and life's transformational
journeys. Working in an abstract style is intended to complete an inner connection with the
viewer in the private space that assumes priority over words."
