David studied art and graphic design as an undergraduate at Yale University, and glass at San Francisco State University, Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Public Glass in San Francisco. In 2012 he won the award for Best Hot Glass at Public Glass's Artist and Artisans Benefit Auction Gala.

This piece uses extra material in the base to raise the circular volume up into the air that fills it, while the hole in its center emphasizes its shape and helps anchor it in space.

"I used spots of an opaque, reducing frit* on the outside with aventurine old gold below the surface to create a combination that sparkles in bright light and communicates a simple statement of form in shadow."

David's vase stands 9 7/8" tall and is 8" at its widest point.
