Always wanted to start backpacking but just don't know where to start? Community Engagement Manager Ericka Berg can help! Ericka has logged over 350 solo miles on just the Appalachian Trail. She is entirely self-taught, having spent countless hours pouring over gear ratings, diving into the world of cottage gear manufacturers, and figuring out how to do everything by herself. From setting up a tent to filtering water to "going in the woods" to hanging a bear bag (which, she admittedly still has some improving to do on that one-forever thankful for bear cables).

Ericka will tailor this training to whatever you want to learn. Interested in the basics? Gear selection? Lightweight gear options? Tricks and tips? Planning? You name it, she can help. The one topic Ericka cannot cover is recipes, as she is a self-proclaimed dirt bag and does not backpack with a stove anymore. Her food consists mostly of bars, jerky, trail mix, dried fruit, and candy.

After your lesson, Ericka can meet you at Black Dome Mountain Sports to help advise on gear. Or, if you already know what you want, you can just use the $100 in giftcards provided by Black Dome and go shopping without her! Whatever you want to do to get backpacking ready!

This package includes the $100 in gift cards from Black Dome and 3 hours of consultation by Ericka, in whatever form is most useful for the participant. She can meet you to look at your existing gear, provide a presentation or resources on topics of your choice, meet you to provide guidance in buying new gear, or she is open to discussing other options to further your backpacking confidence.
