Scoliopus bigelovii / Size: 5" pot

Foetid adder's-tongue is a northern coastal California native species, typically found along mossy streambanks, moist thickets and shady forests. True to its common name, this plant is indeed malodorous, though only subtly so, and only a slight impediment to enjoying the exquisite and intricately purple and cream striped flowers that appear above the large, spotted, bright green leaves in February to March. One of the earliest wildflowers in their native range, it only reaches about 8" in height at maturity and is hardy to Zone 7a. A true collector's item.
