Begonia sp. cf. villifolia / Size: 5" POT

This is another possibly new species of rhizomatous begonia collected in northern Vietnam. Hardiness is as yet unknown but we suspect, as for most of the Asian subtropical begonias, it's around Zone 8b. This beauty has large olive-green leaves with prominent paler venation and a striking red edge to the foliage, all overlaid with minute reddish hairs giving it the distinct rakish appearance of sporting a "five-o'clock shadow"! The shy pink flowers appear in July to September and tend to hide underneath the broad foliage. A relatively large begonia reaching 24" in height at maturity, this plant will make quite an impressive houseplant.
