flamingo flower - Anthurium balaoanum / Size: clay pot

A living piece of New York Botanical Garden History! Collected by NYBG co-founder Nathaniel Lord Britton, this species of anthurium has been in our collections for almost 120 years. The large ruffled, heart-shaped leaves are borne in a small cluster at the top of slowly ascending stems with short aerial roots giving a sculptural look to the plant in the landscape. A real botanical curiosity that benefits from some support, it will branch from the base making a striking clump over time. This plant was propagated from our mother plant of this Ecuadorian species representing a rare opportunity to acquire an uncommon plant of incredible provenance from our historic glasshouse collections.
