pig skin philodendron - Philodendron rugosum / Size: clay pot

The large, heart-shaped foliage of this philodendron species has a rough pebbled texture that is difficult to describe and has some of the most distinctive foliage of all philodendron species. Relatively recently described this species native to Ecuador is threatened in the wild by habitat destruction. The slowly climbing thick stems make a great houseplant or garden specimen in a tropical climate. These cuttings are from the original plants in our glasshouse collections collected in Ecuador by well-known orchid collectors Janet and Lee Kuhn in the late 1970s even before it was scientifically described as a new species. A distinctive and wonderful species in the genus that is a perennial favorite always attracting attention.
