Coccothrinax argentata / Size: 3 gal

silver thatch palm - Coccothrinax argentata

This threatened US native palm found from the southern tip of Florida down into the Keys is a garden-worthy plant for the landscape or even as a houseplant in a bright sunny location. It is a compact species reaching up to 8' at maturity with a rounded crown of fan-shaped leaves with silver undersides. The plant will grow in moist soils with no difficulty and can tolerate seaside conditions with little or no problem. The species is excellent for native gardens providing food for local wildlife and is a host plant for some butterfly species. Considered one of the most handsome of our native palms, this plant is several years old and grown from seed collected from our glasshouse collections. Hardy to Zone 10-11.
