Syringa vulgaris 'Président Grévy' / Size: 4-5' tall, B&B root ball
'Président Grévy' has fragrant double, blue-lilac flowers. Its large blooms open mid-season, typically around the beginning of May at NYBG. This classic variety has stood the test of time, selected and introduced in Nancy, France in 1886 by famed lilac breeder Victor Lemoine and named for François Paul Jules Grévy, President of France from 1879 to 1887. Hardy to Zone 4, this lilac prefers well-drained soils and a sunny garden location. This classic variety is known for its large clusters of starry-shaped, blue-hued florets. Look for it in the Burn Family Lilac Collection at NYBG!
