Prunus mume 'Okitsu-akabana' / Size: 2" trunk diameter, B&B root ball

Although Prunus mume, also known as Japanese apricot or Chinese plum, are some of the first flowering trees to bloom in spring, 'Okitsu-akabana' is one of the later flowering cultivars of the group. Large, pale-pink double flowers add dimension to the season's palette. They have perhaps the largest flowers of all mume selections. Additionally, they produce fruit that is sweeter than the others. Hardy to Zone 6 and growing to 25' tall and 25' wide, 'Okitsu-akabana' prefers well-drained soil and full sun exposure. In general, Prunus mume are some of the best small trees around, but this one is extra fragrant and has a long bloom period. It's also an excellent choice for bonsai!
