This original piece by artist Margo Mandette was inspired by a traditional Japanese raku firing technique. The western version of this technique involves removing pottery from the kilm while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the container is closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies. The result is this stunning bowl. The piece meausres 10 inches high and 12 inches in diameter and is signed by the artist.
