A litho framed print of the accomplished John Gould's beautiful painting "Peace 1783 - A Nation is Born". As both an artist and art instructor, John was a well known lecturer on art. This 20x30 print comes with an engraved tag and documentation.

John placed the setting for this remarkable symbolic painting at Washington's Headquarters, Newburgh, NY, Spring - 1783.

This allegorical scene of the little farm boy holding the baby lamb and showing it to George and Martha Washington contains a deeper meaning. Much may be read into it. Peace has been declared, Freedom achieved, time for a little leisure and we see the "gateway to the world" in the distance. Above all, it is meant to symbolize that a nation is born and General Washington is fated to be the new shepherd as the first president.

This inspired painting shares the spotlight with the first masterpiece, "The Last Cantonment 1783", showing George Washington viewing the soldiers' huts at Temple Hill, New Windsor, NY. Together, these two subjects make a memorable contrasting pair as a lasting tribute to America's celebration of peace.
