Title: "Lauren the Lovely"

Artist: Sherry Salant

Medium: Alcohol ink and digital rendering mixed media.

Dimensions: 16"x 20"

Lauren was first spotted as a puppy with her siblings. They were roaming around a property with garbage, old cars, and just more stuff than you can even imagine. There were multiple hiding places and the puppies were experts at getting to those places quickly. We were able to get two of the siblings, but Lauren was very elusive. Traps had not been successful, so time went on and this puppy got bigger and bigger. Soon, it was just Lauren and her adult friend. We wanted to pull both off the street, but because they relied so much on each other we didn't want to get one without getting the other. They were always together, until one day we noticed Lauren came to eat but not her friend. She would lay down next to this abandoned house and look over at it. We went to check it out and sadly we found her friend laying by the front door passed away. There wasn't anything obvious about what might have happened, but we knew now that we had to get Lauren. She had never been on the street alone.

We had to use a collar trapping device because traps had not worked in the past. At last we had her! She was so scared, but we knew with time she would come around. Her friend came back with us that day too, even though he would never get to know the love and compassion that Lauren would. Leaving him there was not an option.

Today, Lauren is part of a family. She knows love, comfortable beds and toys. She gets to just be a dog and not have to worry about surviving on the street.

Status: Adopted!
