Animal depicted is Peppermint Mocha and below is her rescue story:

We got a call from a good Samaritan about a dog just laying in the grass right off highway 70. The caller wasn't even certain at first if the dog was still alive, she thought she may have been hit by a car. When Donna got there, she saw the white and brown dog laying in the grass. She didn't pick up her head until Donna approached and got closer to her. She stood up, not running off, but ready to move off in the other direction if we came any closer. She let Donna toss Vienna Sausages to her, but would only come so close. After a couple cans, it was obvious that we were going to have to set a trap. She simply was not going to trust us enough to come up, let alone put a slip leash on her. Donna carried the trap over and set it up as she sat and watched from a distance. We walked back to the jeep and let her go to the trap at her own pace. It seemed like forever! She sniffed and walked around it, ate a few pieces in the front, walked around some more, then finally started to make her way in the trap. She was still very cautious, but finally went in and we had her! Peppermint Mocha took a while to warm up, but now she loves being with people and doesn't like it when they leave. Many of our strays have abandonment issues, but with patience and time they learn that their new people will be back. She is currently living the spoiled life in the office of our Volunteer Coordinator, who loves her very much. She enjoys play dates in the yard with other dogs! We know the right family is out there for Peppermint, and we are so glad she will never be cold, hungry and scared again!

Status: Adopted!
