Animal depicted is Big Sweets and his story is below:

Donna spotted Big Sweets running the streets in East St. Louis. He was skinny and looked like he needed our help. Of course Donna pulled over to work her magic. Just as she put a leash on him, someone yelled at her that it was his dog. This happens to us so often, unfortunately, and sometimes we have no choice but to leave the dogs with their "owners", as much as we hate it and want to see them have a better life. This time, however, to our surprise, his owner said, "Yeah, that's my dog - but you can have him? he's too nice, he's not mean enough". He was right about that! This big, sweet boy is a gentle giant and does not have a mean bone in his body. As soon as he was brought into the shelter, he immediately laid down and melted into his bed of big soft blankets . You could just see how grateful he was to have people loving on him and giving him affection, he will never have to "be mean" - he can be a dog and a loved, spoiled family member. Unfortunately, this sweet boy had heartworms so severe that now he is in heart failure - but he has a safe, loving foster home where he can live out the rest of his days.

Status: Medical Foster
