"Sometimes rescuing an animal is a process, not just seeing them and picking them up. This was the case with Lauren. We had originally seen her as a puppy with some of her siblings. They were old enough to be following mom around and had been seen wandering in the street and starting to go farther and farther from "home base". But this one was smart and always ran and hid when we approached. We saw her grow and soon it was only her and an adult that we thought was her mom. The two of them were always together, but had been seen roaming all over the area. We knew because they were so bonded that we didn't want to get one without the other so we were trying to come up with a plan for both.

One day while feeding, we spotted the fluffy pup, but not her partner. The pup seemed to be hanging out by an abandoned house and would look over towards it periodically. When we went to check it out, we found her friend, deceased on the front porch. We knew we couldn't leave the pup, she had never been alone. With a plan in place, we were back early the next morning. We found her by the same abandoned house where her friend was still laying. Within a few minutes we had her! We didn't want to leave her friend behind, so although it wasn't how we wanted it to happen, both were rescued that day.." -Donna Lochmann
