Animal depicted is Tootsie Pop, and her rescue story is below:

Protective moms can be some of the hardest to rescue. They growl and charge to make sure their puppies stay safe. This particular mom had her puppies in the closet of a burned house in East St. Louis. The minute she turned a corner and saw us, she bared her teeth. Behind her, we could hear the tiny grunts and cries of newborn puppies. We set a trap and inched it closer to her, cornering her. She ran into the closet with her babies. With patience and skill, we got her in the trap and were able to gather her sweet puppies. Once back at the shelter, she climbed in our lap sand affectionately thanked us! She and her puppies went to a foster home where she could nurse safely and comfortably until adoption. It's no wonder she was adopted quickly and now she's spoiled rotten in her forever home!
